These are my favorite homemade Natural Beauty Recipes. Ever since Junior High, I've been smearing myself with fruits, vegetables, seaweeds and all kinds of concoctions in the titillating quest for eternal youth, perfect skin, and shiny hair. I would excitedly bottle up fresh avocado lotions, fruit masks and herbal tinctures and give them to friends and relatives. I couldn't understand why they didn't want to wear fruit on their faces! These recipes include natural, cold pressed vegetable oils, natural & exotic butters, fresh ingredients you can find at the health food or grocery store, essential oils, and other totally optional stuff you'll have to order from a natural source or chemical supply company. My absolute favorite book, with Tons of recipes, is The Home Guide to Natural Beauty Care by Julia Busch. My favorite places to buy ingredients are To Die For Soap,Liberty Natural, and Mountain Rose Herbs. I like Puritans Pride for all my herbs & vitamins. Very inexpensive and great quality!
These are some of my favorite recipes, and I'm always inventing new ones! If I'm using eggs or cream, I always get free range, grain fed, happy chicken eggs, and cream from well treated, happy cows, because I love animals so much and I would never want to contribute to all the suffering they endure just so people can eat them. I'm vegan, so I only want to support small farms that take good care of their animals.
My favorite oils and butters are (raw, cold pressed) shea butter, extra virgin coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba, rosehip seed, and evening primrose oil. I have two favorite essential oil blends that I use in a lot of my recipes. The first one is geranium, palmarosa, petigrain, lavender, and ylang ylang for a gorgeous flowery smell and superior moisturizing mix, and the second is carrot seed, frankincense, patchouli and fennel for a superb anti-aging combination. Feel free to add (or leave out) essential oils to any of these recipes, and be careful, they're super strong and concentrated! Always mix a few drops with a carrier oil and do a patch test first. I never measure anything, so the amounts may be off. You can experiment to find the best consistancy!
Dream Cream
3 TB raw natural (undeodorized) Shea Butter
1 TB raw natural (undeodorized) cocoa butter (optional)
1 TB raw natural Babassu oil (optional)
1 TB raw virgin coconut oil
Put ingredients together in a container and melt in the sun, or in warm water. Stir together. To make a softer, more spreadable cream or body lotion, add more coconut or babassu oil. You can also substitute more coconut oil for the babassu if you don't have it. For a thicker, creamier consistancy, use more Shea butter. This is my FAVORITE hand cream ever!!!
Lime So Lovely
juice from 1/2 lime (or lemon)
1 TB honey (optional)
1/4 C olive oil
Shake ingredients together in small container, store in fridge, should last a few days. Apply to face and neck, leave on, blot off later. Orange juice can also be used. Make sure to wear sunscreen if you're in the sun after using citrus acid on skin, because it makes skin photo sensitive.
Sun Salvation
1 - 2 TB Vitamin C powder (or from capsules)
2 TB Spirulina and/or Chlorella powder
3 TB milk powder
1 - 3 tsp. lavender essential oil (use only a few drops if just for face)
Mix dry ingredients with water to make a thin paste, smooth on skin for 20 min. OR add ingredients to your bath and soak. Reduce recipe if just using for face. Milk, green algae, and vitamin C are supposed to help reverse the damage from a day of too much sun, and lavender oil is very soothing. Similiar to Green Goddess, below, but with more punch.

Mix ingredients together, and store in a cool place. Rosehip seed oil is very good for wrinkles, but has a short shelf life (3 mo.), along with Evening Primrose oil, and needs to used quickly and stored in the fridge.

2 tsp of Parsol 1789 (avobenzone) optional
